Local gastronomy

The 1st recorded mention of a restaurant in Český Krumlov dates back to 1783. However, it wasn’t until the 19th century when many restaurants were founded and flourished, especially those serving traditional Czech cuisine.

Nowadays, Krumlov is a destination worth visiting even if only for the regional food. Over the course of the weekend, you will get a chance to taste various delicious food.

Our tip: Start your day by having a fulfilling breakfast at ‘Kolektiv Cafe’ and then read the rest of this article.

The place to go when you're really hungry

Do you crave authentic Czech cuisine with the highest quality? We know a place where you can find the best Czech cuisine in town. Visit ‘Švejk restaurant’ for their confit duck with homemade potato dumplings, cabbage and rosehip sauce. It'll make you drool.

For the best burger experience in your life go to ‘Můstek Beer&Burger‘. Taste their freaking good homemade fries. There is another burger place named ‘7 steak garden‘ if you're searching for a good area to sit on a warm summer evening.

Places to replenish caffeine levels

  • Drunken Cafe - Excellent café near the river with a view of the castle and the chateau. This is a must-visit when your aching feet crave a rest from walking around Krumlov. The biggest advantage is that you can sit outside and inside. They have a good selection of coffee, desserts, soup of the day (even for vegans). We also heard they have a great homemade quiche.

  • Masná 130 - Right in the centre of Český Krumlov. Just a few steps from the main street. But still a quiet oasis where locals and tourists meet. The espresso bar offers specialty coffee from british roastery ‘Has Bean’. They have a selection of cakes, desserts and sandwiches.

  • Café In Vivo - This place offers homemade cakes baked by the owner. If you're wondering where to go for breakfast, they have breakfast paninis and toasties. So there you go.

When the Czech cuisine’s too heavy

Have your Italian holiday moment in the middle of Český Krumlov. Go to ‘Nona Gina’ for a true italian pizza made by real italians - the Massaro family. They've been in Český Krumlov for decades and make the best pizza and pasta in the area.

Visit ‘Restaurant 99’ for the international cuisine: steaks, burgers, quesadillas and burritos.
