Regional Museum
Ideal place to learn a comprehensive and detailed picture of the rich history of the town and the region, permanent exhibitions and a number of seasonal exhibitions are prepared in the unmissable building of the former Baroque Jesuit seminary, today's Regional Museum in Český Krumlov. The museum is open from Tuesday till Sunday.
Pharmacy from the 17th century
Preserved interior of a baroque Jesuit pharmacy from the middle of the 17th century. The original location was in the Jesuit College in Horní Street (now the Hotel Růže) as early as 1640 now located close to the Main Gate. The Jesuit Order was dissolved in 1773 upon the decision of Emperor Joseph II. Later the aristocrat Schwarzenberg bought the interior Pharmacy equipment for 3000 gold coins, and that is how the Pharmacy ended up in the Český Krumlov Castle, which was its location until the years after World War II.
One of its kind ceramic models
One of its kind in the whole world - a magnificent ceramic model of the city. Firstly presented to the visiting public in its complete form at the beginning of 1985 and is still one of the rightly valued and admired museum exhibits. The model depicts the 56 hectares of the city's conservation area, 800 buildings, the bends of the Vltava River and the now defunct city fortifications, walls and gates. The oldest part of the entire model was the Budějovice Gate.
The authors of the model are the ceramics duo ing. arch. Petr Pešek and Jana Pešková. They chose an unusual technological procedure and made the individual urban buildings and terrain features out of coloured baked clay.
Finds from prehistoric settlements
The museum's collections are based on objects from the former German municipal museum in Český Krumlov, transfers of collections from other places in the region. The collection also includes archaeological finds from archaeological sites in Český Krumlov District or from other regions in Bohemia. You'll see here findings from prehistoric settlements (Neolithic, Bronze Age), Celtic burial sites as well as Roman coins, jewelry and ceramics from Late Antiquity, Gothic jewelry.
The Regional Museum has a branch Memorial - the birthplace of the well-known poet Adalbert Stifter in Horní Planá.
