How to get to Krumlov

Although the journey to Český Krumlov is long, it is well worth the effort. There are both buses and trains operating between Český Krumlov and Prague. Or, you can start off on your own by car and stop along the road.


Traveling by bus

The bus journey lasts for about 3 hours and there are about 10 regular lines operating daily on this route. There is a bus leaving Prague every hour or so.


  • RegioJet: 150-200 Kč (starting at Praha - Na Knizeci)

  • Flixbus: 179 Kč (starting at Praha ÚAN Florenc)


Traveling by train

The train ride takes about 3 hours. Each day, there is just one direct train, which normally departs in the morning. Otherwise, all trains to Český Krumlov require a change of trains in České Budějovice. Generally, trains leave from the Prague main train station every 2 hours.


  • 200-300 Kč / direct train (only once a day)

  • 315 Kč / one way with transfer

  • 597 Kč / return ticket


Prices fluctuate, and it's usually cheaper to book a ticket ahead of time. Tickets can be purchased online or through the "Muj vlak" mobile app, which is accessible on Google Play and the App Store.


The train station in Český Krumlov is located 20 minutes walking distance away from the town center. If you have a heavy luggage, we recommend taking a taxi.


Traveling by car

Traveling by car from Prague to Český Krumlov takes around 2 to 2.5 hours (170 km), depending on traffic. You'll drive on International road E55.

  • České Budějovice: 22 km (about 20 minutes drive)

  • Prague: 170 km (approx. 2.5 hours drive)

  • Linz: 70 km (approx. 1 hour drive)

  • Vienna: 210 km (approx. 3 hours drive)


The motorway is quite busy, particularly on the way from Prague to the south in the afternoons, when people are returning from the capital. Day-trippers return from their holiday homes or excursions back to Prague on Sundays and weekends, making it fairly busy.
