Latran Houses
The Latran houses are part of the historical centre of Krumlov. They were built in the Gothic period and still belong to the cultural heritage of the town and the region.
Latran as a sub-castle
The word latrán comes from Latin and means sub-castle, which describes the relationship of this part of the town to the castle and the town itself. Originally, Latran was even a separate district that competed with Krumlov. Over the years, however, Latrán was gradually incorporated into Krumlov, finally being forcibly incorporated in 1555 at the behest of William of Rosenberg.
Architectural pearls
The Latran houses are the architectural pearls of Krumlov and the entire region. If you're not much of an architect, don't worry - the exquisite details can be appreciated even by a untrained eye as well. The house is decorated with many Gothic and Renaissance elements - cornices, cornices and arches, cresting and mounding, sgraffito, as well as painted images of saints or coats of arms of local noble families.
Life at Latran
Many important townspeople and ordinary craftsmen and merchants lived in the houses. Since the middle of the 19th century, the houses have been used as a confectionery or café, which was also popular with the most famous native of Krumlov, Egon Schiele.
The houses have been renovated in recent years, both their facade and interiors.
