Museum of Torture
Experience the spooky atmosphere in the Museum of Tortute and don't forget to bring your naughty children. They'll see scary things that will make them glad they were born into a different century. In the middle ages torture was used to extract information, force confessions, punish suspects, frighten opponents, and satisfy personal hatred. The word 'torture' comes from the French 'torture', originating in the Late Latin tortura and ultimately deriving the past participle of torquere meaning 'to twist'.
See more than 100 instruments of torture
The exposition of the law of torture is located in the cellars of the Český Krumlov Town Hall. Almost 100 exhibits of torture instruments are displayed on more than 400m².
Visitors will also see 10 wax figures depicting various tortures: hanging, boiling water on hands or feet, breaking on wheel, burning at stake etc. In addition to all this there are unique audiovisual effects: the burning of a witch and execution by sword. (with blood splashing out). The museum is open daily and the exhibition takes around 15-30 minutes.
